VOYAGEURS CANOE TRIP PROGRAM
AGES: 13-17LENGTH: 12 Days (8 day trip), 20 Days (16 day trip), 26 Days (21 day trip)

The Voyageur program emphasizes adventure, challenge and friendship, plus the acquisition of new skills in the area of community living, camping skills, outdoor survival, team work and leadership.
The Voyageurs live in tents and have two experienced, qualified and well trained canoe trip leaders for each group of 8 campers for white water trips, and 10 campers for flat water trips. The first days of each experience are spent in camp preparing and packing for their trip, as well as doing fun team-building activities to help create a strong group dynamic. Participants spend 8 days traveling by canoe over lakes, through forests and mountains in a beautiful wilderness setting. They do portages, swim, appreciate nature, enjoy storytelling, stargazing and sleep in tents under the stars. There are also many outdoor games and adventures along the way. All participants are encouraged to contribute according to their skills and experience whether on the portage, steering a canoe or providing comic relief around the camp fire each night. Through community living and experiential environmental education activities, they will explore basic survival, paddling and leadership skills.
All Voyageurs I trips will take place at La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve. With over 2,000 kms of circuits comprised of both lakes and rivers, La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve's is a paradise for canoe camping. VOYAGEURS 2 - WHITE WATER: AGES 13-15
The Bazin River, Northern Québec, Canada*
Participants experience the same wilderness adventure as Voyageurs 1, with the added thrill of white water paddling. Through intensive community living and experiential environmental education activities all participants are introduced to basic survival, and leadership skills canoe safety, water hydrology and white water paddling.
The Bazin River is located in Northern Quebec in a pristine natural environment The river’s topography is varied with canyons, evergreen mountain slopes, sandy beaches and rapids. It is a great river whether you are embarking on your first river or you are a more experienced paddler.

Voyageur 3 - White Water: Ages 14-17 (20 days-16 day canoe trip)
The Ashuapmushuan River, Québec, Canada*
Participants spend 16 days traveling by canoe on the beautiful Ashuapmushuan River, one of Quebec’s finest canoeing rivers in central Canada, flowing through the beautiful region of Lac St-Jean. The Ashuapmushuan River is surrounded by stunning pristine forests and was travelled for fur trade and as a waterway towards Hudson Bay. Participants will do portages, swim, learn about hydrology and white water paddling, discover nature interpretation skills and sleep under the stars. Through intensive community living and experiential environmental education activities they will be exploring basic survival, paddling and leadership skills.

Voyageur Ultimate - White Water: Ages 15-17 (26 days-21 day canoe trip)
Missinaibi River, Ontario Canada*
Situated in northeastern Ontario, the Missinaibi River flows northeasterly for 426 kilometres from the Abitibi Uplands north of Chapleau to its confluence with the Moose River in the James Bay Lowlands. It offers one of the longest, unimpeded stretches of wilderness river environments found in Ontario. The Missinaibi was nominated to the Canadian Heritage Rivers System for its unspoiled scenic beauty, varied natural heritage features, its importance to the history of Canada’s development as a major fur trading route, and the potential it offers to visitors for an extended wilderness canoe and camping experience.
This once in a lifetime 21 day canoe-trip experience offers a unique opportunity to learn about hydrology and geography, to explore survival skills and to develop their historical and environmental knowledge. Through this extensive community living experience, participants get a chance to develop their leadership skills and their understanding of their surrounding environment through various workshops done during the canoe trip.

Canoe trips are physically demanding. As such we reserve the right to refuse a participant we deem they are not sufficiently able to cope with the physical demands of a canoe trip.
